Review: Murder of Crows

Murder of Crows Murder of Crows by Anne Bishop
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Yet another incredibly wonderful page-turner in this phenomenal series!!!

With the darker overtones of Carey's imagined world of the "Kushiel" and "Namaah" books, along with that same feel of slow-reveal to the greater world beyond the confines of the already fully fleshed out community of Lakeside mixed with the more modern "real time" of books in the vein of Harrison;s "The Hollows" books, these books are both exciting and though provoking.

Their oddly relevant inter-species fears and hatreds are thoroughly relevant, and explored, all while the author brings some harsh truths about the humanity - and lack thereof - often in humans.

Onward to book three!!!

Review: Written in Red

Written in Red Written in Red by Anne Bishop
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So far, this series is utterly FANTABULOUS!

A truly unique heroine, set in one of the most unique worlds I have come across in YEARS! A thoroughly well-crafted world, with a feel somewhere between Carey's "Kushiel" books and Harrison's "The Hollows" and an ever growing cast of regulars made this first book a "hook you from page 1" kinda book! Kudos!

Review: Beast Master: A Novel in The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series

Beast Master: A Novel in The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series Beast Master: A Novel in The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller Series by Shayne Silvers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As with all of the books in the Nate Temple universe, this one seriously does NOT disappoint! Shayne Silvers, as always, starts with action and adventure, sprinkled liberally with snark and wit, a few dashes of angst and woe, and and a smidge of WTF for good measure.

Figures of myth and legend, whom you have always felt comfortable "knowing" through literature are always brought to light in whole new and interesting ways, humanizing them also, at times, demonizing them. Characters are always well rounded and fun, even in the midst of terror and tears.

Read ALL the books! Trust me, if you love myth and magic and modern day paranormal shenanigans this is one author you simply can NOT pass by... especially since each and every book in this series has been better than the ones before it!

Shayne Silvers starts with a bang... and never ends on a whimper! Kudos and keep them coming! #TeamTemple all the way!

Delays and Real Life

No, my dear ones, my lovely readers, I have not forgotten you, I promise!

However...  that thing called real life has reared it's ugly head and temporarily derailed my reading and reviewing life!

Once we're settle in the new digs I promise to return to all my Blog hops, promos, reviews and cover reveals!  Cross my heart!

Due to the wonders and vagueries of life, I absolutely HAVE to move.  There is no leeway, be gone by the end of the month, don't let the door hit you on the butt!

Thanks to yet more wonderful friends, Luc and I have a place to go to, waiting for us in York Pa!  Yay us!  Problem solved, right?

WRONG!

Because...  moving costs MONEY, and if we had any we wouldn't have been forced to move in the first place!

So...  I am begging you (and your friends and family and everyone and anyone who are nice enough to share this to!) for your help!

I would like to hire real movers, if possible, so I don't have to add in begging a friend with a vehicle and/or license to give up a couple of days of their lives to help me out.

I am going to have to get rid of a TON of things, just to bring our stuff down to the lowest possible estimate for movers I've received (which, by the way, are ranging from the $1,000 to the $1,500 range, just because of the whole "interstate" bit).  These estimates are as much based on stuffage as distance, so "additional costs" and unforeseen expenses" can add up, if I'm not careful (I've seen it happen to friends).  I would rather be safe than sorry!

Add in travel expenses (train fare, etc) for Luc and I to get ourselves down there, because otherwise we can't get there ourselves, and things begin adding up. A lot.  A lot more than we have, in fact.

Other ways to help would be:

1.  Looking at my small "Moving List" wish list over at Amazon (made public and under the name Selina Harvey) or send Amazon Gift Cards so I can use them towards things on that list.

2.  Stop and Shop (they're the only truly "local" store, as in "don't have to take bus there and cab back, adding to the cost!) gift cards (for food purchases) would also be welcome, as every penny saved on food can be put towards the moving!

Sadly, this is needed AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, as I can't put a down payment to get a reservation until I have enough money put by to at least cover the estimate (in other words, I need to know that we can at least fully pay the mover's base costs).

Oh, and did I mention that the best time for ALL of this to happen is over the Holiday break at school?  Yeah, less disruptive to Luc (scholastically) that way, plus it gets us out by the official deadline of the "end of the month".

This move is a very hopeful sign, and comes with opportunities for bot Luc and I to flourish, far away from "big city living".  I've researched the schools and the ones he is likely to go to are all reviewed as excellent, and I won't have to live in as much fear of either of us becoming someone else's "collateral damage" (our current neighborhood consists of mass shootings, drug busts, a few knifings, a couple of shootings, and one kidnapping...  all within 5 blocks of our house, many closer)!

Review: Bearly Alive

Bearly Alive Bearly Alive by Jenny Brex
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I really hate panning a book but... *sigh*

The author has zero clue about the effects of trauma, especially psychological trauma, on it's victims. The fact that the heroine went from a kidnapped at 14 year old who had escaped barely alive from her kidnapper after 10 long years of psychological, emotional and physical abuse and within hours went to lusting after her rescuer is completely absurd in every way possible.

Add in that all the actual ACTION, other than sex and long talks, is all "off stage" and never part of the actual story, leave zero emotional tension or even any real way to connect with the very one-dimensional characters.

About the only thing semi-decently written is the sex scenes, and they ain't all that great either. I mean, they're just kinda... "oh, look, sex is happening" and honestly contribute less to the story itself and are more the way to break up the blandness of the overall story. Sad, too, because it sounded like it SHOULD have been a great story.

Review: Promised

Promised Promised by Olivia Arran
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Enjoyable story, with a few interesting twists and hints of future goodness, nice "future plot candy", if you will, for further development.

The characters were well detailed and nicely three dimensional, with plenty of quirks and "issues" waiting to crop up over time.

Enjoyed alot!

about-the-author
14618784_1784249115196400_162313557_oAbigail Lee Justice writes emotional, erotic, romantic suspense that includes a BDSM theme. She creates strong characters who seem real but are flawed in some ways; some couples Happily Ever After will be a work in process. Some characters’ problems are just too steamy to fix in one book.

Born and raised in Baltimore City by two wonderful, supportive, loving parents, as a child Abigail made up vivid stories in her head. Until one day a friend told her instead of keeping her stories locked in her head she needed to put them on paper and that’s exactly what she did.

Abigail met her husband 29 years ago on a blind date (thanks Dan C.) while working a part time job to put herself through college. She fell madly in love with her Prince Charming and has been since the first day they met.

By day, Abigail practices medicine in a busy Cardiologist practice. By evening she switches her white coat for more relaxed comfortable clothing. She has two wonderful adult sons and a very spoiled chocolate lab. In the wee hours of the night, she writes BDSM romances.

In her spare time when not working or writing, Abigail enjoys reading, concocting vegetarian dishes, exotic vacations, scuba diving, high adventure activities, living in the lifestyle she writes about, and doing lots and lots of research making sure her characters get it just right.
